Queensland Cabaret Festival

The Queensland Cabaret Festival is about to wind up another busy year on Queensland stages (June 10 – 20).

Highlights of the 2015 festival featured some big names such as Tex Perkins, Mary Wilson, Rob Mills and Tom Burlinson. Before the festival closes, there are still some stellar acts to get out and see.

Con2 The Cabaret

Con2 The Cabaret (June 19 & 20, Burke Street Studios) showcases the Queensland Conservatorium of Music second year musical theatre students in a self-crafted cabaret lead by multi-award winning composer and playwright Megan Shorey and acclaimed musical director Bev Kennedy (Wicked, Avenue Q, We Will Rock You, The Lion King).

Transformer

On Saturday June 20, the festival closes out with Transformer (Cremorne Theatre 9:30pm). Led by musical director James Lees, five acclaimed Brisbane vocalists pay homage to Lou Reed’s debut solo album.One of the 20th century’s most influential songwriters, Lou Reed first made a name for himself leading the New York art-rock ensemble The Velvet Underground. Walk on the wild side with Alison St Ledger, Lucinda Shaw, Sandro Colarelli, Brett Harris, Sahara Beck accompanied by a ten-piece band.

Conceived as the Brisbane Cabaret Festival in 2000 and reinventing itself as the Queensland Cabaret Festival in 2014, the festival continues its upward journey and is presented this year by the Queensland Cabaret Foundation and Brisbane Powerhouse in partnership with Queensland Performing Arts Centre. Events now populate venues from its homeland in Brisbane to as far up north as the Cairns Civic Theatre.
