Broadway’s &JULIET sets final performance for January 2027

Broadway’s & JULIET is scheduled to play its final performance at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre on 3 January 2027, ending its New York engagement slightly more than four years after its official opening. The production’s official ticket calendar sets the final performance for 3pm and identifies the venue at 124 West 43rd Street.

AussieTheatre’s earlier coverage records Broadway previews beginning on 28 October 2022 and the official opening following on 17 November that year. When the August 2026 report was published, the engagement was open-ended. That description was accurate at the time, but the newly posted closing notice supersedes it and gives the Broadway run a fixed end point in the opening days of 2027.

The official production website identifies & JULIET as a nine-time Tony Award-nominated musical. AussieTheatre reported that it had played 1,555 performances by 9 August 2026, providing a dated measure of the run before the closing announcement. That figure is not the eventual final tally. The exact number of previews and regular performances to be completed has not been confirmed and should not be projected from the current weekly schedule, which remains subject to change.

The musical reworks the conclusion of ROMEO AND JULIET, imagining Juliet choosing not to die over Romeo and instead setting out to pursue a new life. David West Read wrote the book, which uses songs from Max Martin’s pop catalogue to tell that alternative story. Luke Sheppard directs and Jennifer Weber choreographs, placing Juliet’s decision about her own future at the centre of the familiar tragedy.

As of 10 September 2026, the official ticket page promotes Chrissy Metz in the Broadway company and Joey Fatone at selected performances. Fatone is listed from 23 September to 11 October and again from 20 October to 1 November 2026. Paulo Szot is scheduled for performances from 13 to 18 October. The fixed windows place both Fatone and Szot within the production’s announced final months without indicating who will appear at the final performance.

AussieTheatre’s 13 August report also recorded the return of Ben Jackson Walker as Romeo, joining a principal company led by Gianna Harris as Juliet. Those details establish a snapshot of the Broadway company shortly before the closing announcement. They do not amount to a casting schedule through January, and the production has not confirmed that its current principals will remain for the rest of the engagement.

The official closing notice provides a date but no explanation for the decision to end the Broadway run. It does not attribute the closure to sales, theatre availability or an incoming production. No verified closing rationale, financial account or final performance total is therefore available, and none can safely be inferred from the ticket calendar alone.

The announcement applies specifically to the company at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre. The production’s official website separately promotes a North American tour with engagements during 2026, so the Broadway closing should not be treated as notice that the touring production is ending. Nor does it establish the longer-term position of every international staging. The status of those productions after 3 January 2027 will need to be confirmed separately for each market.

Australian audiences may recognise & JULIET from its 2023 engagement at Melbourne’s Regent Theatre, documented by Variety Australia. That season gives the Broadway announcement particular relevance for local theatregoers, although the January closing applies only to the New York production and does not determine the future of the musical in Australia or elsewhere.
