Project X: Broadway Unplugged announces first Sydney Winners

The Winners:

Helena Wehbe:

Since graduating highschool in 2008, Helena has been a prominent face in the music and theatre scene both in Australia and internationally. Her performance in the 2010 Edges a Song Cycle led her to become the featured vocalist in Pasek & Paul¹s Australian debut performance at the Raval in 2010. From there, Helena has had the honour of singing for theatre legends including Stephen Schwartz and Liz Callaway.

She has completed a degree in Creative Arts/Music Performance and is now in her final year of Law. After working in New York City with New York Musical Theatre Festival in 2011, Helena¹s Broadway dream has solidified even further. She is a regular on the music scene, performing in various venues around Sydney and is also currently writing and working on what she hopes will be her first album.

One day, Helena hopes to play her idol, Princess Jasmine on Broadway, sing the national anthem at the State of Origin, and duet with her long time lover, Usher.

Paul Smith:

Paul is a composer currently completing a Doctorate of Creative Arts at the University of Western Sydney.

As a singer he began working with the Blue Mountains Musical Society playing Javert in Les Miserables in 2009, but soon began performing more operatic repertoire in the greater Sydney area with Opera Prometheus, ArtsongNSW and Sydney Independent Opera.

During 2011 he was a Telstra Young Artist with Pacific Opera and has premiered a variety of new compositions by Sydney based composers. His concert work often involves a mix of musical theatre and opera.
