Acclaimed actor Tony Llewellyn-Jones makes Hayes debut in She Loves Me

Hayes Theatre Co is Australia’s most exciting new independent music theatre venue, boasting Helpmann Award nominations and wins aplenty since the company opened in 2014.

Some of Australia’s biggest name in musical theatre have performed in productions at the 111 seat theatre in Potts Point over its 4 year history including the theatre’s namesake herself – Nancye Hayes. Verity Hunt Ballard, David Campbell, Martin Crewes, Amy Lehpamer, Helen Dallimore, Bobby Fox, Lucy Maunder, Blazey Best and Virginia Gay are just a handful of stars to have tread the boards at the Hayes, and today AussieTheatre.com can confirm another star set to join the ranks of Hayes Theatre Co alumni.

Acclaimed veteran actor Tony Llewellyn-Jones will make his Hayes Theatre Co debut this August as Mr Maraczek in She Loves Me, directed by Erin James. Llewellyn-Jones most recently appeared as Colonel Pickering in Julie Andrews’ Helpmann Award winning production of My Fair Lady for Opera Australia. He is a regular on our screens, having featured in countless series including Rake, Underbelly, Blue Heelers, All Saints, Police Rescue during his career. He has performed with the Sydney Theatre Company, Melbourne Theatre Company, Bell Shakespeare, Belvoir, Nimrod, and has sat on the board of the Sydney Theatre Co, Melbourne Film Festival and the Australian National Playwright’s Centre. A film producer, voice over artist and musical theatre performer, Tony Llewellyn-Jones is a graduate of NIDA and the Australian National University.

“It is with great pleasure that we announce Tony Llewellyn-Jones as the final cast member in our She Loves Me company”, said director Erin James.

“I have been a huge fan of Tony’s work for a long time and to work with him on this beautiful show is an absolute privilege. We are exceptionally fortunate to have him in our cast and I cannot wait to see him bring Maraczek to life on stage at Hayes Theatre Co”.

The previously announced cast includes Rowan Witt and Caitlin Berry in the leading roles of Georg Nowak and Amalia Balash, with Zoe Gertz as Ilona, Kurt Phelan as Kodaly, Joel Granger as Arpad and Jay James-Moody as Sipos. Suzanne Steele and Georgina Walker round out the cast in featured roles.

Set in 1930s Europe, She Loves Me takes place within Maraczek’s Parfumerie and tells a timeless tale of relationships, communication and the ways in which we escape the daily grind.

Director Erin James is the recipient of the inaugural Artist Led Initiative and is a highly esteemed performer in numerous large-scale productions including GFO/ Opera Australia’s My Fair Lady and South Pacific. Joining James is musical director Steven Kreamer (ASSASSINS, Little Shop of Horrors), choreographer Leslie Bell (Big River) with costumes and set design by Isabel Hudson (The View UpStairs, Dry Land).
