Vanessa Williams Takes on Iconic Role in ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ Musical for UK Premiere

In a significant casting announcement, Vanessa Williams is confirmed to star as Miranda Priestly in the UK premiere of ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ musical, bringing the formidable editor-in-chief of Runway magazine to life on stage. This highly anticipated musical adaptation is based on Lauren Weisberger’s best-selling 2003 novel and the acclaimed 2006 film, which featured Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway.

The musical boasts an impressive creative team, with music by the legendary Elton John and lyrics by Shaina Taub. The book is penned by Kate Wetherhead, under the direction and choreography of Jerry Mitchell, known for his work on ‘Kinky Boots’. The production’s design team includes Tim Hatley for set design, Gregg Barnes for costume design, Bruno Poet for lighting design, and Gareth Owen for sound design, ensuring a visually and auditorily stunning experience. Casting is overseen by Jill Green CDG, a recipient of the 24th Annual WhatsOnStage Award.

Williams, renowned for her roles in ‘Ugly Betty’ and ‘Desperate Housewives’, steps into a role immortalized by Streep in the film adaptation, marking a significant moment in her career. The full cast is set to be announced, promising a lineup of talent fitting for the adaptation’s grandeur.

The show is scheduled to debut at Theatre Royal Plymouth with a preliminary run starting 9 July 2024, before moving to the Dominion Theatre in the West End from 24 October 2024. Additionally, a special gala event on 1 December 2024 will support World Aids Day and the Elton John Aids Foundation, highlighting the production’s commitment to philanthropy alongside its artistic endeavors.

‘The Devil Wears Prada’ musical is poised to be a standout theatrical event, blending high fashion, drama, and the acclaimed music of Elton John, with Vanessa Williams leading the charge in a role that promises to captivate audiences.
