Thriller Anniversary: MJ The Musical Moonwalks into 1 Year on Broadway!

Broadway’s electrifying hit musical MJ celebrated its first anniversary on February 1, 2023, at the Neil Simon Theatre. Starring Tony Award winner Myles Frost as the iconic King of Pop, the show opened on February 1, 2022, following previews that began on December 6, 2021.

MJ the Musical is a stunning showcase of Michael Jackson’s life and music, featuring a book by Lynn Nottage, a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner, and a score of some of the most popular songs in history. Tony Award-winning director and choreographer Christopher Wheeldon helmed the production.

The musical boasts an exceptional creative team, including Derek McLane for sets, Natasha Katz for lighting, Paul Tazewell for costumes, Gareth Owen for sound design, Peter Nigrini for projection design, Charles LaPointe for hair and wig design, Jason Michael Webb for music direction, and David Holcenberg and Webb for orchestrations. Rachel Hoffman of The Telsey Office handled the casting.

The title role of MJ played by Myles Frost has made history as the youngest individual actor to win a Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Musical. The show garnered four Tony Awards in total, including Best Choreography, Best Lighting Design in a Musical, and Best Sound Design in a Musical.

As MJ marks its first anniversary, it remains a top attraction for Broadway enthusiasts and Michael Jackson fans alike.
