Rachel Zegler’s award-winning Evita revival set for Broadway in 2027

Rachel Zegler will bring her acclaimed performance as Eva Perón to Broadway, with Jamie Lloyd’s revival of Evitaconfirmed for a New York season in spring 2027.

Producers announced that the Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber musical will transfer to Broadway following its critically acclaimed and sold-out West End engagement at the London Palladium last summer. Zegler, who won the Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her performance, will reprise the role at a Shubert-owned theatre, with the specific venue still to be announced.

The Broadway production will be produced by Jamie Lloyd for The Jamie Lloyd Company and Michael Harrison for Lloyd Webber Harrison Musicals, by arrangement with LW Entertainment.

Further details, including performance dates, full casting and venue information, are expected to be announced in the coming months.

The London season became one of the most talked-about theatre events of the year, drawing major attention for Lloyd’s contemporary staging and Zegler’s performance in the title role. One of the production’s defining moments saw Zegler perform Don’t Cry For Me Argentina from an outdoor balcony facing the street, a staging choice that generated widespread coverage and helped fuel interest in the revival beyond traditional theatre audiences.

That moment is not expected to be recreated in New York. Lloyd has indicated that the Broadway staging will require a different approach, with a new idea being developed specifically for the transfer.

The revival also marked a significant stage moment for Zegler, who has become internationally recognised through screen roles including West Side Story, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes and Disney’s Snow White. Her Olivier win earlier this month further cemented the production’s impact and confirmed her growing presence as a musical theatre performer.

Evita, with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice, follows the rise of Eva Perón from poverty to her position as one of Argentina’s most powerful and controversial public figures. Since its original stage success, the musical has become one of Lloyd Webber and Rice’s most enduring works, with major productions staged around the world.

The Broadway transfer positions Lloyd’s revival as one of the major musical theatre events of the 2027 season. Its West End success, Zegler’s award-winning performance and the promise of a reimagined New York staging are likely to make it a closely watched arrival when it opens next spring.
