The hit musical comedy Operation Mincemeat has announced a further extension to its acclaimed West End run at the Fortune Theatre, with performances now scheduled through to 30 May. Tickets for the new booking period go on sale from 3 October.
Created by David Cumming, Felix Hagan, Natasha Hodgson, and Zoë Roberts of the theatre collective SpitLip, the show tells the remarkable true story of the covert World War II mission that helped turn the tide of the war. Since its early development at the New Diorama Theatre, Southwark Playhouse, and Riverside Studios, the production has built a devoted following, recently celebrating its 1,000th West End performance.
In addition to the extension, the popular audience ballot system—originally available only on Mondays—will now also apply to Tuesday and Saturday shows, giving more theatregoers the chance to secure seats.
Directed by Robert Hastie, with choreography by Jenny Arnold, the production stars Alex Young as Ewen Montagu, Roshani Abbey as Jean Leslie, Danny Becker as Hester Leggatt, Peter McGovern as Charles Cholmondeley, and Chlöe Hart as Johnny Bevan. The ensemble also includes Jason Kajdi, George Jennings, Geri Allen, and Madeleine Jackson-Smith.
The creative team features Ben Stones on set and costume design, Mark Henderson on lighting, Mike Walker on sound, and Steve Sidwell on orchestrations and vocal arrangements, with Georgie Staight serving as associate director. Casting is by Pearson Casting.
Following its successful West End run, Operation Mincemeat is also preparing for its first-ever UK tour next year, alongside a Broadway transfer. The musical is presented in the West End by Avalon in association with SpitLip, with commissioning support from New Diorama Theatre, the Lowry, and the Rhine.
