Lin-Manuel Miranda and Eisa Davis’ ‘Warriors’ Musical Album Adds More Broadway Stars to Cast

The highly anticipated musical album ‘Warriors,’ penned by Lin-Manuel Miranda (creator of ‘Hamilton’) and Eisa Davis (‘Bulrusher’), is set to release on October 18 through Atlantic Records, and continues to expand its star-studded lineup. The album, inspired by the 1979 Paramount Pictures film ‘The Warriors’ and the novel by Sol Yurick, promises to deliver an ‘immersive listening experience,’ bringing to life the story of a New York City gang journeying from Coney Island to the Bronx and back, after being framed for the murder of a respected gang leader.

Recent announcements have confirmed that Busta Rhymes will lend his voice as Brooklyn on the 26-track album. Joining him are Stephen Sanchez as Cal, Joshua Henry (‘Hamilton,’ ‘tick, tick…Boom!’) as Wanya, Timothy Hughes (‘Hadestown’) as Lance, and P NATION star Daniel Jikal as Joon. The album will also feature four-time Grammy Award-winner Marc Anthony (‘In the Heights’) as Tato, and four-time Grammy-nominated singer Luis Figueroa as Miguel. Additionally, Flaco Navaja (‘Tell Hector I Love Him’) will portray Jesús, and rapper Chris Rivers takes on the role of ‘The Bronx.’

Billy Porter (‘Kinky Boots’) will play Granger, while Michaela Jaé Rodriguez (‘Pose’) is set to star as Yaya. Singer-songwriter Mykal Kilgore will take on the role of Élan, with Casey Likes (‘Back to the Future: the Musical’) as Jesse, and Utkarsh Ambudkar (‘Ghosts’) as Sully. The legendary Ghostface Killah and RZA will voice Staten Island, adding a distinctive flair to the album.

James Remar and David Patrick Kelly, who originally played Ajax and Luther in the 1979 film, return to the ‘Warriors’ universe in new roles as the Cops Barnes and Victor, respectively. Colman Domingo (‘Rustin’) will voice the Masai of the Gramercy Riffs, with rapper Cam’ron portraying Manhattan. Nas, who also serves as the album’s executive producer, will play ‘Queens.’

The album is produced by musician Mike Elizondo, with more names expected to be announced before the release date. ‘Warriors’ promises to be a unique concept album that brings together a diverse cast of Broadway stars and musical icons, creating a rich and vibrant portrayal of gang life in 1970s New York City.
