HAMILTON opens in Abu Dhabi

The international tour of HAMILTON officially began performances with a gala red-carpet premiere at Etihad Arena. Business leaders, celebrities, creatives, dignitaries, and fans from the UAE gathered to celebrate the launch of the show.

The Tony, Grammy, Olivier and Pulitzer Prize winning musical opened just over 12 months after Michael Cassel Group brought Disney’s THE LION KING to Abu Dhabi, the first musical to ever play there.

HAMILTON is the second and continues the company’s ongoing commitment to bringing the best productions in the world to the Middle East.

Speaking at the premiere, producer and CEO Michael Cassel:

Following the triumph of THE LION KING’s season in Abu Dhabi we are thrilled to return so soon with Lin-Manuel Miranda’s visionary production HAMILTON. Huge, heartfelt thanks to Jeffrey Seller for entrusting our team to share this phenomenal production with audiences all over the world, and to our partners here in Abu Dhabi — led by the stellar team at Miral and Proactiv Entertainment – for making it possible. Our creative and production team and our phenomenal cast, crew and musicians have ensured audiences in Abu Dhabi experience a very special theatrical event when they come to Etihad Arena.

HAMILTON’s first ever international tour premiered with a sold out season in Manila in September, with Abu Dhabi the second city the production will play. The tour then moves to Singapore in April for a season at Sands Theatre, Marina Bay Sands.

HAMILTON is the epic saga that follows the rise of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton as he fights for honour, love, and a legacy that would shape the course of a nation. Based on Ron Chernow’s acclaimed biography and set to a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, R&B, and Broadway, HAMILTON has had a profound impact on culture, politics, and education.

HAMILTON features book, music, and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, direction by Thomas Kail, choreography by Andy Blanken buehler, and musical supervision and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire. In addition to its 11 Tony Awards, it has won Grammy, Olivier Awards, the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and an unprecedented special citation from the Kennedy Center Honors.
