HADESTOWN: THE MUSICAL is scheduled to arrive on United States digital storefronts on Tuesday, 25 August 2026, adding a home-viewing option one month after its North American cinema opening. The release will give US viewers a way to access the filmed stage production outside cinemas, but it is transactional rather than an announced subscription-streaming premiere.
Pre-order listings have appeared through Apple TV, Amazon’s Prime Video store and Fandango at Home. In this context, transactional access means an individual title is accessed through a digital shop rather than included in a monthly streaming package. Apple TV here is not Apple TV+, while a Prime Video store listing does not make the film part of an Amazon Prime membership. No subscription-streaming service or premiere date has been identified. Final launch pricing is also unconfirmed, and the listings do not establish that every platform will offer rental, rather than purchase only, on the first day.
The listings establish a United States release only; they do not support a worldwide launch. No transactional digital date has been established for Australia or New Zealand, and there is no confirmed Australian DVD or Blu-ray date. Both countries have a separately scheduled cinema rollout, but that theatrical plan should not be read as immediate local home access. United States storefront terms and geographic restrictions may also require confirmation when the release goes live.
The film runs for 141 minutes. Its United States Apple TV listing names Brett C. Sullivan as director and Bleecker Street as the studio. It was filmed live at the Lyric Theatre in London’s West End during the musical’s 2025 reunion, not on Broadway. The listing classifies it as a 2026 film, while the performance preserved on screen comes from the previous year’s London engagement.
The principal cast reunites all five original Broadway leads: Reeve Carney as Orpheus, Eva Noblezada as Eurydice, André De Shields as Hermes, Amber Gray as Persephone and Patrick Page as Hades. They perform with members of the West End company, including Bella Brown, Madeline Charlemagne and Allie Daniel as the Fates, together with the London workers ensemble.
HADESTOWN has music, lyrics and book by Anaïs Mitchell, with stage direction by Rachel Chavkin. Sullivan’s screen direction credit sits alongside Chavkin’s stage direction for the captured production. The screen company is therefore best understood as a hybrid: a reunion of the original Broadway principals within the West End production. That distinction avoids the misleading impression that the film was recorded on Broadway or features only the original New York company.
The path to home release has taken the film through several distinct distribution stages. Following the 2025 London capture, it was presented at Tribeca in June 2026. Bleecker Street’s Crosswalk label and LD Entertainment then opened it in North American cinemas on 24 July. The engagement was initially advertised as a five-night event, but screenings were extended in response to demand. That extension superseded the original five-night limitation in the film’s release chronology.
The cinema performance gives the home-release timing broader industry context. Axios reported an opening of approximately US$10.2 million at the domestic box office and described it as the largest opening for a filmed live-theatre capture. That figure is an opening result rather than a final gross, and the record description is specific to Axios’s reported category. Even within those limits, the result points to demand for professionally filmed stage musicals beyond a narrowly timed event-cinema window. The digital launch adds another paid access phase, although it has not been established whether the 25 August release will overlap with any remaining North American screenings.
AussieTheatre has already covered the film’s North American cinema announcement and its later international theatrical rollout. Those articles established the cinema route in their respective markets. The 25 August listing is a separate development centred on home access in the United States, rather than another theatrical announcement, and it does not alter the confirmed arrangements for Australian audiences.
The film arrives on digital storefronts while HADESTOWN continues its open-ended Broadway run at the Walter Kerr Theatre. The stage production won eight Tony Awards in 2019, including Best Musical, and its cast album won the 2020 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. The continuing Broadway run gives the capture a current stage context as it moves into digital distribution.
For Australia and New Zealand, the next confirmed milestone is the cinema release on 13 October 2026, alongside the United Kingdom and Ireland. Any later local purchase, rental or subscription-streaming option will require a separate announcement. Until then, the October cinema engagement is the only dated Australian and New Zealand access in the verified release schedule.
