Capital Theatre London delays opening to 2026, Dirty Dancing launch shifts

The new Capital Theatre in west London has postponed its opening to 2026, and the planned revival of Dirty Dancing, The Classic Story on Stage will move with it. The permanent venue sits beside the Westfield shopping centre and will house a purpose built, 620 seat auditorium designed by the team behind the Bridge Theatre and the transformed Kit Kat Club, home of Cabaret.

Owners cite planning and design issues identified early in construction. They will use the additional time to enhance the building, adding a full size, double height rehearsal studio, plus extra backstage and front of house facilities.

Covering 35,000 square feet, the theatre is planned as an intimate space in which no seat is more than nine rows from the stage. The venue will debut with Dirty Dancing, The Classic Story on Stage, a title that has enjoyed a decade of sold out runs across the UK. New performance dates will be announced in due course.

Current ticket holders will be contacted directly. Further updates on the opening schedule and first season programming are expected as the project progresses.
