Beaches, A New Musical Heads To Broadway With Jessica Vosk And Kelli Barrett, Limited Run Set For 2026

A musical adaptation of the beloved novel and film Beaches is set to arrive on Broadway this spring, with Jessica Vosk and Kelli Barrett confirmed to star in the leading roles.

Titled Beaches, A New Musical, the production will begin previews at the Majestic Theatre on March 27, ahead of an official opening on April 22. Vosk and Barrett will play lifelong best friends Cee Cee and Bertie, marking a Broadway transfer after the show’s international premiere in 2024 at Theatre Calgary in Alberta, where both actors originated the roles.

The Broadway engagement is planned as a limited run through September 6, after which the musical will embark on a national tour across the United States. The move to Broadway follows nearly a decade of development for the project.

Beaches features a score by Grammy Award winner Mike Stoller, with lyrics by Iris Rainer Dart and a book by Dart and Thom Thomas. The musical was developed in collaboration with David Austin. Direction is shared by Lonny Price and Matt Cowart, who previously worked together on Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill.

Based on Iris Rainer Dart’s New York Times bestselling novel, later adapted into the 1988 film starring Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey, Beaches charts the evolving friendship between Cee Cee and Bertie. The story follows the pair from childhood pen pals to adulthood, tracing careers, relationships, rivalry and enduring loyalty across decades.

The creative team also includes choreographer Jennifer Rias, orchestrator Charlie Rosen, and scenic designer James Noone. The Broadway production is produced by Jennifer Maloney Prezioso, Douglas McJannet for Arden Entertainment, Alison Spiriti and Justin Sudds for Right Angle Entertainment, and Ryan Bogner and Tracey McFarland for Broadway and Beyond Theatricals.

Beaches arrives in a Broadway season with a relatively small slate of new musicals, placing it among several high profile contenders that may compete for Tony Award recognition. Other new works announced for the season include The Queen of Versailles, Two Strangers Carry a Cake Across Manhattan, Schmigadoon! and The Lost Boys, while the Broadway classification of the Off Broadway hit Titanique! remains to be confirmed.

With its star casting, high profile creative team and enduring source material, Beaches, A New Musical is poised to be one of the most closely watched Broadway openings of the year.
