Broadway audiences can look forward to welcoming the new stars this September.
On Wednesday, July 24, it was announced that pop singer Adam Lambert and Moana star Auli’i Cravalho will join the cast of Cabaret starting on September 16. Lambert will take on the role of the enigmatic Emcee, currently played by Redmayne, while Cravalho will step into the shoes of the aspiring nightlife starlet Sally Bowles, a role presently portrayed by Rankin.
Growing up on the musical theater stage, performing on Broadway has always been a childhood dream for Lambert. The themes of Cabaret resonate deeply with him, especially in the current sociopolitical climate, making it the right time for his Broadway debut. He looks forward to working with Cravalho to create their own magic on stage.
Cravalho, thrilled to join the long line of talented women who have taken on the iconic role of Sally Bowles, is excited to join a show with such a rich history and a stellar cast and crew. She considers it an honor to be part of this production.
This will not be Lambert’s first foray into theater. Before his rise to fame on season eight of American Idol, Lambert performed in the touring ensemble of Wicked in 2005 and later understudied the romantic lead Fiyero in the February 2007 Los Angeles production of the show.
Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club has already proven to be a Broadway sensation. Alongside a string of sold-out performances, the show received nine Tony Award nominations in 2024, including Best Revival of a Musical and Best Performance by an Actor/Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical for both Redmayne and Rankin. The production ultimately won the award for Best Scenic Design of a Musical at the ceremony on June 16.
With Lambert and Cravalho joining the cast, Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club promises to continue captivating audiences with its powerful performances and timeless themes. Fans eagerly await their debut on September 16.
