Comedy Fest Chat: Kyle Kinane

Kyle Kinane is heading to Australia, from the USA, for the first time. He’s described in the MICF guide as “the bearded man at the bar you’ll share a beer with and chat about past forays into punk”: he’s going to fit into Melbourne very easily.

What MICF shows are you most looking forward to seeing?
Not sure. Gonna wander – sorry – go on walkabout and see what looks fun.

What makes MICF different from all the other festivals?
It’s the furthest away.

What comedians/performers have influenced you the most?
Uncle Pecos from the Tom and Jerry cartoons.

What’s advice do you wish you’d been given before your first gigs?
Try harder in college.

Do you do still your own flyering?
I’ve never done my own flyering. I prefer to trust professional pilots for that kind of thing.

What’s the best (or worst) thing a review has said about you or your show?
“His opening act was very funny.”

If you could invite anyone to see your show (and you know they would come), who would it be?
Bigfoot.

What comedian (alive or dead) do you wish you’d seen live?
Rodney Dangerfield

When did you realise that being funny is the career for you?
I haven’t yet. I still research what requirements I would need to fulfill to become a National Park ranger.

What’s the best heckle you’ve received?
The kind that sounds like laughter.

Is there anything you’re not prepared to joke about?
Nah.
