Tracy Harvey Smokin at the Paris Jazz Cat was pretty smoking hot! With smiles all round and Tracy Harvey proclaiming, “more gum than the whole of Australia” the atmosphere was infectious. The performers were amped to share Tracy’s music with us and we couldn’t help but get excited about hearing it. She was so excited to bare all she exposed her bra within five minutes of the shows start

Saturday night was a fun relaxed atmosphere. Although the cabaret was scripted it felt like each performer was comfortable to step out and engage the audience or share something when the urge arose. It certainly made me feel involved, enthused and comfortable.

Effervescent Tracy was joined at the mic by bubbly Bryce Ives and sultry Laura Burzacott. This trio was backed by groovy Double Bass player Rose Westbrook, multi talented pianist and trombone player Peter Foley and versatile Jack Howard playing trumpet and gracing us with his rich voice (proving once again all Trumpet players can sing!). In fact Saturday night was Jack Howards acting debut. As if he needed another string to his bow?!

The night played out as cabarets do with Bryce and Tracy introducing the songs. We heard numbers from Call Girl The Musical and her brand spanking new, not yet seen musical…. Prick. This tantalising new musical is set in a busy suburban hospital featuring glorious songs such as ‘Hospital Wonderland’, ‘Gary’, ‘X-ray Vision’, ‘Little Prick’ and ‘Dr Kingsley’ the Anaesthetists song with it’s eerily catchy refrain ‘Sleep Deep Sleep’ The song that took the cake for me however had lyrics that went like this: ‘Like a Gondolier’ (imagine a silky ballad) ‘I’ll paddle up your rear’. You heard right folks, Tracy has composed a Colonoscopy song.

Whatever Tracy’s new musical genre is called, it will definitely be worth a look. I say power to the new Australian musical writers. I’ll be there – see you then.
