Rumour Has It: 60 minutes inside Adele

Rumour has it that Naomi Price is the next big thing in Australian Cabaret.

Her latest cabaret Rumour Has It: 60 minutes inside Adele, is an hour of pure entertainment as she takes us through the highs and lows of fame and failed relationships.

Price’s extraordinary voice is one of the best in Brisbane; her comic timing impeccable and her stage presence arresting. She shows total control over her audience and band, and her signature ‘mega-mix’ mash-ups are always impressive. Kudos to Adam Brunes her co-deviser, Jason McGregor her Musical Director (and guitarist), and Michael Manikus who also collaborated on the original arrangements.

Completing the big band line up was the equally talented Brett Fowler on Piano, Andrew Johnson on Bass, Mik Easterman on Drums, and backing vocalists Luke Kennedy, Rachel Everett-Jones and Laisiasa Utovou.

The audience were even treated to a couple of impersonations of some other famous singers including Céline Dion, Taylor Swift and Amy Winehouse, which helped break up the ‘Adeleness’ of it all. I especially loved her Spice Girls mashup.

The show is not just a tribute act, but a true cabaret where the brassy gin-swilling potty-mouthed ‘Adele’ shared funny (and touching) stories and really fed off the audience, making each show a new experience.

The layout of the room was cabaret style seating with a myriad of hanging lamps providing mood lighting by Jason Glenwright. It was simple, in true “Brisbane Arts Funding” style as Price points out, yet highly effective.

This is a highly tourable show with its global appeal and peeled back staging (bar the bubbles), and should act as the star vehicle to the world that Price has been deservedly waiting for.
