MICF: The Mighty Little Puppet Show

As if improvised comedy wasn’t already a high-wire act; increase the level of difficulty by adding in puppets.

The Mighty Little Puppet Show is a long-held dream of actor, comedian and Time Lord, Rob Lloyd. And this tight 45-minute show proves, the format has a lot of potential. The puppets have no faces; they start off blank, which is the way all the best impro begins. Audience members help with typical prompts like “name a place” but some also get to build the puppets’ faces and give them names.

There’s some infectious joy in watching puppets come to life and improvisers dealing with their puppet moods, their puppet-moustaches and their final dying puppet words. Host David Innes deftly moves the show along from bit to bit, while a rotating cast of performers and special guests keep each other on their toes.

A high-wire act is difficult if you’re a puppet (they don’t have feet!) but the performers are nimble, quick-witted and hilarious. The Mighty Little Puppet Show nails puppet impro. I can’t wait to see where this show goes next.
