There’s quite a fuss around Marika Aubrey in Sydney music theatre circles at the moment, and after seeing her solo cabaret show at Sydney’s classy Raval room, it is not hard to see why.

Aubrey is an absolute firecracker on stage – she has a powerful voice and an excellent stage presence that makes her one of the most exciting performers to come onto the cabaret scene in some time.

Her show, Caution: Aggressive Birds, is an interesting concept about, to put it simply, angry women.

In all honesty, the concept struggles a little to connect with the audience and at times the patter seems a little mis-matched, but her incredible voice more than makes up for it.

Spending an hour watching Marika Aubrey perform is like spending an hour in bed with your dream lover – it’s explosive, mindblowing and more than fulfilling.

By the time she belts out ‘Meadowlark’ towards the end of the show, the audience is completely captured by Aubrey and a voice that hardly needs the microphone, her voice is so strong.

There’s some excellent moments – her rendition of ‘I Put A Spell On You’ is simply brilliant and her engagement with the audience – all in the ‘aggressive’ theme – brings a great belly laugh.

Aubrey deserves the fuss surrounding her at the moment and she is a perfect tonic for a warm summer’s day.

Until December 12. Bookings: www.moshtix.com.au.
