Lost L’amour – Sydney Fringe Festival

The show started with an arm through a red curtain at the front but then Lauren suddenly appears behind the audience. I begin reviewing the script and songs in my head, thinking how I would phrase the description of the show and its subtext and then something happened. Something extraordinary – I stopped thinking. I had to, because I was laughing so hard.

Sydney Fringe Festival 2011 Venue: The Vanguard – King St Newtown Wednesday 14 September, 2011 On the promotional site for Laura LaRouge’s show Lost L’amour it states:
I would most likely go see this show…. If I got a free ticket”?- Lauren’s Father “The best show I’ve ever seen!”?- Lauren LaRouge
These platitudes are alongside some beautiful photos reminiscent of Marilyn and 1950’s glamour. It was apparent this was going to be interesting. And probably hilarious.

Lauren sits on a chair, in a sparkly dress and plays the ukulele and sings some songs by Amy Winehouse and others and chats in between and it is just so funny. At first I wondered where the monologues were going, she was relaxed but almost to the point of being scattered – however, it works an absolute treat. She is supported by ‘the love of her life’ Holly J’aDoll who does some lovely burlesque here and there and it adds up to a great show. The monologues could be more extensive but mostly because I want to hear more about that midget guy from Hong Kong. And more about other first world sads ?
Go and see this show. I beg you. It is funny and clever with enough wit to keep Dorothy Parker mostly happy. Take a date, or a friend who has love life issues because you are bound to score and/or laugh your tits off and realise you are not alone. This show is one that would work so very well with a packed audience so when it plays on Wednesday night…go!
What are you waiting for; those tickets aren’t going to buy themselves….
