Welcome to the first weekend of 2016! What we need now, as we slip back into some semblance of routine, is a little bit of beauty. A little bit of magic. A little bit of music.
So we’re back, celebrating videos of Australian performers that really grab us, in one way or another. And what better way to start the feature in the new year than with David Campbell?
His recorded and cinema-screened cabaret with John Bucchino last year was a reminder while the TV personality and seasoned performer is so beloved. After catching the show at the Hayes, I said that Campbell’s tone ” is rich and full, with just enough husk around the edges to keep it from being butter-smooth, and all for the better – Campbell sings like he must sing, he sings like a careless thought voiced carefully, he sings like a rushing stream, conversational and lyrical in part.”
Pick up the album, but also, you can hear a taste of that voice as he sings his friend Bucchino’s simple, lovely, “Grateful.” So here it is.
Happy Sunday.
