YOUR SONG celebrates the words you know, the tunes you hum, and the stories that bind them together

Tales of heartbreak and hope, of pain and passion, of first loves and final moments, fuse with the iconic songbook of Elton John in Your Song, an evocative new production from acclaimed independent producers, The Little Red Company.

Your Song celebrates the unforgettable music of Elton John and shares the memorable moments it evokes in everyday people during its world premiere season at Fortitude Valley’s Judith Wright Arts Centre from 22 April to 1 May 2021.

The brand-new show redefines some of Elton’s biggest songs including Candle in the Wind, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, I’m Still Standing, Benny and the Jets and Tiny Dancer using powerful stories and personal experiences shared by real-life people.

Skillfully revealing the intimate associations to global hits is a powerhouse cast of performers and musicians, steered by Little Red’s artistic director and co-founder Naomi Price in her directorial debut for the company.

Making their first appearance for Little Red are Andy Cook (Chicago, Oklahoma, Priscilla) and Marcus Corowa (Bran Nue Dae, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, The Secret River) alongside fan favourites Luke Kennedy (The Voice Australia, Christmas Actually, Swing on This) and Irena Lysiuk (The IsoLate Late Show, Tosca, The Owl and the Pussycat).

They are joined onstage for all seven performances by Little Red’s talented live band including Mik Easterman (drums), Michael Manikus (keys) and OJ Newcomb (bass).

Price said Your Song was an uplifting celebration of the wildly popular music people knew with the unspoken stories they didn’t:

This is Elton John’s incredible back catalogue as it’s never been heard before; his lyrics are given new meaning through the true accounts, stories, memories and experiences of everyday people. We asked strangers to share what Elton’s music meant to them and were overwhelmed with their generosity and candour. Every song in this show has been reimagined and recontextualised through their stories, infusing them with personal meaning and deeper significance.

Your Song is the latest addition to Little Red’s collection of modern songbook adaptations alongside Rumour Has It, Wrecking Ball, Lady Beatle, Christmas Actually, From Johnny to Jack, and There’s Something About Music and reunites writing partners Adam Brunes and Naomi Price.

In a fitting return to the venue that launched Little Red’s breakthrough cabaret hit, Rumour Has It, Your Song is one of the first productions staged in the revamped Judith Wright Arts Centre following its three-year closure.
