WOOF/meow in stellar debut

The new independent theatre collective WOOF/meow is currently transforming the beautiful Wharf 1 studio at Walsh Bay into the quiet, run down caravan park of Clybucca, located on the pacific highway in northern NSW, in the New Mardi Gras and Under The Warf production of Parkie, written by Melbourne based playwright Daniel Hayward.

Press notes for the show read: “There’s three kinds a people you find here. First Tuckers, they just stop in for a night or two. Next, you got the mosies, they just mosie about. You find most of ‘em is just running away from something. Then you got the rest of us, the ones known as Parkies..I like it here. I’m a Parkie, I’m home.”

Life in the sleepy little park is fairly uncomplicated for Adam: that is until the arrival of Jake, an enigmatic stranger who is determined to shake things up. Hot on his heels is Matt, a local boy fresh out of prison who struggles to see a future in his family’s failing farm or understanding in his father’s heart. Adam is seduced by Jake, only to find that Jake has been working a similar tune with Brenda, a 16 year old persistent dreamer who is desirous of a glamorous city life beyond the walls of her parent’s caravan park.

Adam is forced to acknowledge his palpable desire and thin veneer of secrecy between the friends begins to develop. Will Adam finally take control of his life? Or does the situation finally erupt, taking everyone by surprise with the consequences?

WOOF/meow is the brain child of three guys, one director and two actors.

Disheartened by the regular themes portrayed in your run of the mill ‘queer plays’, WOOF/meow is focused on producing original work that tells the stories of real people.

WOOF/meow is made up of Sydney based director David Koumans, Actors College of Theatre and Television acting graduate Nathaniel Scotcher and Mat Lynch who is one of the growing pool of Flinders University Drama Centre, Adelaide, actors that have made the pilgrimage to Sydney after graduation.

This production marks the launch of WOOF/meow.

The show runs until March 4.
