Wicked will close on September 12, Radio 2GB says.
The musical has been playing at the Capitol Theatre in Sydney since September last year, and will hit the one year milestone before the curtain comes down.
No dates for other states have been announced.
Wicked has been one of the major success stories in Australian musical theatre, starting its journey in Melbourne in July 2008. It immediately became a major public success story.
Whilst there have been several key cast changes since the show originally opened, it is expected that the original Glinda, Lucy Durack, will stay with the show through to its closure, making her the only ever permanent Australian Glinda for the length of a run.
Composer Stephen Schwartz told 2GB that he was pleased with the Australian success of Wicked.
“It’s really exciting how well it’s been received down here,” he said.
“I went to see it last night and really enjoyed seeing the production… it’s been a fantastic run down here.”
