We’re Off to see the Wizard

70 years on from the iconic MGM film, Sydney Theatre Company is presenting Windmill’s multi-media retelling of the much loved tale of Dorothy’s quest to find herself and her way back home.

The Wizard Of Oz is directed by Windmill’s Artistic Director Rosemary Myers with a cast including Ursula Yovich as Dorothy and Geoff Revell as the Wicked Witch of the West, at Sydney Theatre from October 23 to November 1, 2009.

The production (based on the adaptation by John Kane for the Royal Shakespeare Company but re-imagined by Myers and the performers presents a contemporary re-telling packing in all of the elements that modern 8+ audiences enjoy – adventure, fun, magic, darkness and scary bits.

Written by L Frank Baum, who first looked over the rainbow in 1900, The Wizard Of Oz is regarded as a timeless classic for more than a century of readers, film and theatre goers. Books sales in the twentieth century alone exceeded 10 million in several editions. The 1939 film is considered to be the most popular film of all time.

Multiple Helpmann Award-winning Windmill is celebrated as Australia’s leading theatre company creating engaging theatre for families.The Wizard Of Oz premiered at the Adelaide Festival Centre earlier this year where it broke all previous Windmill box office records and received exceptional reviews.

The full cast is Luke Clayson, Hamish Fletcher, Patrick Graham, Jude Henshall, Ezra Juanta, Geoff Revell, Ursula Yovich, Alirio Zavarace and musician Paul White.
