WATCH: HEATHERS casts from three continents unite for global Candy Store music video
The Heathers have gone global.
To celebrate Heathers Day on 1 September, nine performers from productions of HEATHERS THE MUSICAL in Australia, New York and the UK and Ireland have joined forces for an exclusive new music video of the show’s signature number, Candy Store.
Filmed across three continents, the video brings together three incarnations of Westerberg High’s most powerful clique, creating a worldwide celebration of the darkly comic musical and the fans who have embraced it.
Representing the Australian production are Calista Nelmes as Heather Chandler, Amélia Rojas as Heather Duke and Abigail Sharp as Heather McNamara.
They are joined by New York cast members Zan Berube as Heather Chandler, Jackera Davis as Heather Duke and Ava Demary as Heather McNamara.
Completing the international line-up are the UK and Ireland Heathers, Liberty Stottor as Heather Chandler, Jessica Ibadin as Heather Duke and Lou Henry as Heather McNamara.
The resulting video allows each trio to bring its own personality, attitude and unmistakable Heather energy to one of the musical’s most recognisable songs. Moving between the three companies, the performance transforms Candy Store into a cross-continental showcase of the characters’ confidence, choreography and carefully coordinated intimidation.
Its release forms part of the annual Heathers Day celebrations, named for the date featured in the musical’s opening diary entry, “September 1st, 1989. Dear Diary…”
For fans, the video also offers a rare opportunity to see performers from three separate productions sharing the same musical moment. While each company presents its own interpretation of the infamous trio, the collaboration highlights the humour, theatricality and cult appeal that have helped HEATHERS THE MUSICAL build an international following.
Based on the 1989 film, HEATHERS THE MUSICAL follows high school student Veronica Sawyer as she becomes entangled with Westerberg High’s ruling clique and the dangerously charismatic new student Jason “J.D.” Dean. The musical features music, lyrics and a book by Kevin Murphy and Laurence O’Keefe.
The video arrives as the Australian company opens its Sydney season at the Roslyn Packer Theatre, where it will play until 19 September.
Following Sydney, the production will head west for the final destination of its national tour, playing Perth’s Regal Theatre from 30 September to 11 October.
With nine Heathers, three continents and one formidable anthem, the new Candy Store video proves that the world can never have too much red, green and yellow.
