According to the Courier Mail, Australia’s biggest musical theatre star Anthony Warlow will soon be heading to Broadway.

It is understood he is to make his debut on the Great White Way in the Broadway revival of Annie playing the role of Daddy Warbucks – a role which he is currently performing in the acclaimed Australian revival.

No stranger to the role, Warlow received the unprecedented honour of having a new song inserted into the 2000-2001 revival of Annie by lyricist and original Broadway director Martin Charnin for him to sing as Warbucks — ‘Why Should I Change A Thing’. The song was removed from the current Australian season, and it is not known if it will appear in the Broadway revival.

Warlow will be 51 years old when he begins his Broadway debut, but he has already established himself internationally as one of the world’s greatest music theatre performers. Dubbed ‘The Voice’, Warlow made a guest appearance at the Phantom of the Opera 25th Anniversary concert with Sarah Brightman (featured on the DVD) and has reportedly been sought for prior engagements on Broadway by the producers of The Secret Garden, Jekyll and Hyde and The Phantom of the Opera.

The Australian tour of Annie is currently playing at Melbourne’s Regent Theatre for 12 weeks before transferring to Perth. It is understood the Broadway revival will open in November this year.
