BREAKING NEWS:

Australia’s Tony Sheldon, currently starring in the Broadway production of Priscilla Queen Of The Desert has been honoured at the iconic New York Restaurant Sardi’s.

Sardi’s is practically synonymous with Broadway, existing in the heart of the theatre district in New York City and many a framed caricature drawing hangs in the restaurant proper.

Tony Sheldon’s portrait (signed by Sheldon at a special ceremony this week) will now adorn the walls of the famous restaurant – a very high honour indeed for this well deserving Australian performer.

“This is a classic Broadway tradition”, Les Solomon, a long-time follower and supporter of Sheldon’s work, told AussieTheatre today.

“Many artists aspire to have their portrait hung on the walls at Sardi’s, and to have it happen after only being in New York a year, is a huge honour”, he said.

As there is limited space on the walls of the restaurant, it is understood that new members are inducted into the ranks quite infrequently.

“This is clearly a nod to all the work he has done in Australia prior to working in Broadway. Really it’s an honour to the Australian Music Theatre Industry as well as to Tony”, Les Solomon said.

Congratulations to Tony Sheldon from everyone at AussieTheatre.com – what a magnificent achievement!

  • This is such a great NYC honour for Mr  Sheldon. Probably only second to a Tony nomination. Having seen him perform in the show both here and on Broadway I can only reiterate how deserved the honour is.
