tick, tick…BOOM! cast announced

Visionary musical theatre writer Jonathan Larson (of RENT fame) passed away tragically 20 years ago but his work still resonates with audiences across the world. Today, Melbourne company Pursued By Bear have announced the cast for their upcoming production of his lesser known show, tick, tick…BOOM!.

Originally conceived as a one-man autobiographical ‘rock opera’ and then re-configured into a three-actor chamber musical, tick, tick…BOOM! depicts a struggling creative artist who wonders how much longer he can sanely balance his passion and goals with the stumbling blocks of life – relationships, jobs, money, doubts, fears.

Playing to audiences at Chapel off Chapel from 21 April, the show promises to be just the ticket Melbourne audiences need to celebrate the legacy of Larson, and will feature a cast and creative team that have been shaped immeasurably by his work.

Jon will be played by the enigmatic Luigi Lucente. Joining Luigi is Angela Scundi (Susan) and Quin Kelly (Michael). Mitch Roberts and Rebecca Hetherington will cover all three roles and act as on-stage vocalists. Brenton Cosier will act as a third cover and Assistant Director.

Paul Watson will direct.

Maddi Ostapiw

Maddi is a performer who has been too scared to stand in the spotlight for the last few years, so she channels her need for love and appreciation into writing about the theatre instead. An energetic consumer of musical theatre, she is currently earning a degree in journalism and teaches voice in her small hometown. Maddi is normally covered in cat fur, has an opinion on everything, and in the words of Lin-Manuel Miranda, is not throwing away her shot.
