Our ‘This week in Musical Theatre‘ column is back after a short hiatus and there is a lot going on this week.

  • Anything Goes has their final show at the Sydney Opera house tonight, concluding the national tour. The production was received well both publicly and critically, taking home 3 Helpmanns this year.  AussieTheatre would like to congratulate the entire cast and crew on an amazing run.
  • Matilda The Musical celebrated their 100th show in Australia this week, (with many cakes of different flavours!). Matilda is set to play in Sydney until January and move to Melbourne in March 2016.
  • CATS the Musical opens in Sydney tomorrow night at the Capitol theatre, starring Delta Goodrem. The production is currently in previews and will run in Sydney until November 30.
  • Dirty Dancing closes tomorrow afternoon in Adelaide after more than a year on the road. They also announced this week that they raised over $120,000 for the Cancer Council through bucket collections and a charity dress rehearsal, which is a fantastic result.
  • Rent enters its final week at the Hayes Theatre Co this week. The current season is sold out, but the producers have announced a return season in March / April 2016.

NEXT WEEK:

  • The Rob Guest Endowment is only a week away! The Gala Concert on 9 November at the Sydney Lyric Theatre. Caroline O’Connor has joined the already star studded list of performers including Rob Mills, Jemma Rix and the casts of CATS and Matilda. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster.
  • Dame Julie Andrews and Tony Award Winning choreographer Chris Gattelli (Newsies, South Pacific) arrive in Sydney later this week to begin auditions for the Opera Australia / GFO production of My Fair Lady.
