Theatre goes green

Semicolonbackslash Productions will make their Sydney Fringe Festival debut this September with their new environmentally sustainable show, Landing, at the Sidetrack Theatre, Marrickville.

Created specifically to explore the concept of land/landing/landed, Landing is a devised piece of performance theatre, featuring an all female cast that employs a diverse range of performance styles from monologue to movement, song, dance and mime.

Given the obvious themes of the show, Landing is an environmentally sustainable show – a first for Semicolonbacklash Productions who have partnered with Sydney?based Green Elephant Events to ensure all aspects of the production, from rehearsal to performance, remain low?impact.

“We wanted to explore the different interpretations of the concepts of land, landing and landed. This could be how cultures deal with finding new land, the difference between growing up on the land and in the city or even abstract notions of how people ‘land’ after hardship,” said director, Mathieu Cadart.

“The Sydney Fringe Festival gave us the ideal springboard to develop these concepts and we’re excited to be a part of Sydney’s cultural history. This is the first Fringe Festival in over seven years.

Semicolonbackslash Productions will also take Landing to Melbourne as part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival in October.

Landing will show at the Sidetrack Theatre, Marrickville until September 22. For show times, ticket sales and more information head to the Sydney Fringe Festival website: thesydneyfringe.com.au/shows/landing
