Teenager Oliver Alkhair is back with his next new musical

Teenager Oliver Alkhair

When Sydney announced it’s lockdown I already had an online musical that I wanted to produce, in mind. I straight away started contacting people who would be able to make this show happen until I had a complete Cast and Creative team. Full of Sydney’s rising talent we have cast members who have been in shows such as Disneys Frozen, School of Rock, Shrek, Fun Home, Evita, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Billy Elliot and so much more. When everyone’s holiday plans were cancelled, the kids were thrilled to be able to be a part of something that means they can still do what they love. With everyone in lockdown it was easy to come up with a quick rehearsal schedule and we have been rehearsing every day since, so we could perform it before lockdown hopefully ends next week. Could You Hug a Cactus is a really fun family show that you can enjoy from the comfort of your lounge. It is based on a collection of poems by Phillip Van Wagoner and the story follows a bunch of children that come together to put on a musical full of colourful poems and songs. It is really special working with everyone in a time like this, as everyone is so grateful to be able to still perform and do what they do best, while there are so many restrictions, you can’t even go to the theatre.
