Sydney Fringe Festival: Our Picks

The Sydney Fringe festival will run from 1 to 30 September, a celebration of art, theatre, cabaret, music, comedy and more. Below we have chosen some of the theatre, music theatre and cabaret program highlights – why not head out and support a Fringe show?

Desperately Young at Heart
After an award-winning season at Perth Fringe World and before a stop at the Melbourne Fringe, Robert Hofmann will land at Newtown’s New Theatre, channeling a spectacular array of characters: an Irish nun, a ‘gifted’ church musicianand a sexually-frustrated German relationship counsellor: all young at heart, all desperate…and all comic alter egos of  the singer Hofmann. The Kings Collective Lepidoptera: Exploration of Youth

A new company exploring the multi-faceted youth experience with three plays in one festival? If that doesn’t intrigue you, surely the strength of the plays chosen will – all critically acclaimed and thought-provoking, this is a series sure to light a fire at the TAP Gallery, where all three will be held.

Lady Sings it Better Fifth Birthday Party
These funny, talented ladies have been around for five years, and if you haven’t seen them perform yet, now is the time to start: at their celebratory birthday bash. Putting a uniquely feminist bent on songs performed by men, these singers will make you realise what exactly it is you’re singing along to when you’re listening to the radio in the car. Keira Daley’s Slapdash Song Night
A variety show? In our Fringe festival? Yes! Keira Daley is a talented singer and actor, and she hosts a little slice of perfect: a place for artists and punters to meet and mix under the motto: “singy-sing, talky-talk, drinky-drink” – the true spirit of cabaret! Guests in her Fringe season will include Alice Fraser, Blake Erickson, the cast of Glory Days, Holly Summers-Clarke, Inês, Jim Fishwick, Lady Sings it Better, the cast of Point & Shoot, Pontus Aleryd, Steven Kreamer, and more!
