iOTA
This Sunday, we’re going to go into one of the more absurd, creatively rich corners of Australian musical theatre as we celebrate artist and performer iOTA. You might know him from Smoke & Mirrors, Hedwig and the Angry Inch and The Rocky Horror Show.
iOTA’s new show, B-GIrl, is set to open at the Sydney Opera House on 3 June, playing through until 21 June.
Co-created by director Craig Ilott, this darkly edgy show tells the story of B-girl, a troubled young woman trapped in a reality that is relentlessly grinding her down. Played by award-winning actress and music theatre star Blazey Best, as things get worse B-girl conjures up a vivid glam rock-fantasy where she escapes into the world of her alter-ego Clifford North (iOTA). He’s a rising star who represents everything she isn’t – powerful, sexy, in control.
But before we get to B-Girl, let’s go back to Smoke and Mirrors. Here’s iOTA taking the annual Light the Night concert to a whole other level back in 2007, performing “Come Back for Me.”
