Summer series of free art

Warm up and relax into summer at Hamer Hall with Riverside Live, a program of free concerts, workshops and debates on Thursday and Friday lunchtimes, and on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Thursday lunchtimes (12.30–1.30) are well-bring workshops designed to get visitors active. What better way to wake up a why-isn’t-it-Friday slump than with dance workshops by Asanti Dance Theatre (Australia’s leading African performace company), jam sessions using iPads or robust discussions with local musicans.

Friday lunchtimes (12.30-1.30) are all about music with concerts from performers from Melbourne Conservatorium of Music and Lyric Opera of Melbourne, and artists including Alex Pertout, Nilusha Dassenaike and Joe Chindamo.

Then head back after work for a Friday evening (6.00–7.00) slice of new art and music in the hall’s Riverside Foyer. Performances include poetry slams curated by the Centre for Poetics and Justice,a new rendition of Romeo and Juliet by Catherine Milliken and MASSIVE Hip-Hop Choir and regular house band The Putbacks.

On Saturday evenings (5:00-6:00), join conversations with musicians and learn about their creative process, their practice and what inspires them to create. This program will feature conversations with Teddy Tahu Rhodes, Berlin’s jazz maestro Michael Schiefel and members of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.
