Hilary Cole is one of the finalists for this year's Rob Guest Endowment.
Stalker: The Musical is a new Australian work, written by Alex Giles, David Russell, and New York based Australian composer Andy Peterson, and this show is going place – it’s just been accepted into the New York International Fringe Festival 2015.
Of over 150 shows, this is the only Australian production accepted into the Festival – no small feat!
Stalker: The Musical is a dark, satirical musical, set in a dystopian world where love is taboo, and men and women are free to leer and lust to their heart’s content.
Jay Cloudstreet finds himself drawn to one particular girl, Ava Derwent. We follow this awkward couple through a story of self-discovery as they explore what love is and the pleasure and heart-break it brings.
The story is complicated further by a mysterious stranger who throws this world, and its rules, into chaos.
Stalker will be directed by Tyran Parke, a performer and director who knows musical theatre like the back of his hand, and will include Aussie performers Hilary Cole, Aaron Tsindos, Blake Erickson, Michele Lansdown, Christopher Hamilton, and more. It will premiere in Manhattan this August.
From the creative team (David Russell and Alex Giles):
“We are absolutely thrilled to present our work on an international stage,” David Russell and Alex Giles said in a joint statement.
“Stalker has been many years in the making, and it is wonderful to see new Australian musicals being so richly supported both at home and around the world.”
Help Stalker make its way to NYC by supporting its Pozible Campaign (one of the rewards includes a seat to its one-off performance at Sydney’s Hayes Theatre in July). If you’d like to know more, you can follow the show on facebook, visit its website, and read more about the Festival.
