Lo-fi indie company Squabbalogic are kicking off their 2016 season by digging beneath the shiny exterior of a musical theatre classic to find the grit that use to lie at its heart. The Original Grease, including songs and scenes cut well before the beloved show ever made its way to Broadway, is much more rebellious and raw than you might think. There is also new material written especially for this production.
The production will play from April 6 – 30 at the Reginald Theatre in Sydney’s Seymour Centre and will be directed by Jay James-Moody.
Including never-before-heard songs and scenes cut prior its original Broadway debut, The Original Grease is a rebellious, rude and rage-filled tale of teen love, sex, friendship and rock ’n’ roll. Sharpen your flick knife, get your flirt on and buckle up for an all-new, emotionally-charged take on the world-famous musical via Squabbalogic’s gritty, rough-hewn aesthetic and an explosive cast of sensational young artists. Choreography will be by Simone Salle, and musical direction by Benjamin Kiehne.
The cast features Doron Chester (Miller), Emily Hart (Sandy), Ric Herbert (Vince Fontaine), Gareth Isaac (Eugene), Victoria Knowles (Cha-Cha), Michele Lansdown (Miss Lynch), Coral Mercer-Jones (Rizzo), Daniella Mirels (Frenchy), Jason Mobbs-Green (Roger), Matilda Moran (Patty), Caroline Oayda (Marty), Stephanie Priest (Jan), Aaron Robuck (Sonny), Timothy Shead (Doody), Temujin Tera (Kenickie), and Brendan Xavier (Danny).
Tickets go on sale January 21. Visit squabbalogic.com.au for more information.
