Unnatural habitat: Sir David Attenborough set to appear in Sydney and Melbourne

For the first time, Sir David Attenborough will appear live on stage in Sydney and Melbourne for a series of public events entitled Sir David Attenborough – A Life on Earth.

Sir David is arguably the world’s best-known natural history filmmaker, a naturalist and broadcaster whose career has spanned nearly six decades. He started out in broadcasting, joining the BBC Television Talks Department in 1952. Working with the BBC he first launched his well-known Zoo Quest series, was responsible for bringing colour television to Britain, and eventually became the network’s Director of Programmes.

Leaving that post in 1973 to explore the planet, Sir David has produced several important works about the natural world. His series Life on Earth was watched by about 500 million people worldwide, and several series followed, looking at topics like life in Antartica, birds of Paradise, fossils, and the lives of mammals.

His most recent production, Frozen Planet, was broadcast in 2011 and was a ratings winner both in the UK and for the Nine Network in Australia.

Sir David was knighted in 1985, and in 2005 received the Order of Merit by the Queen, which recognises exceptional distinction in the arts, sciences, and other areas.

Sir David Attenborough – A Life on Earth will take audiences on a journey through Sir David’s extraordinary life, including the evolution of  filming techniques, his passion for bringing the world closer to nature, and plenty of previously untold stories. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to share Sir David’s experiences with the man himself, in the flesh.

The season kicks off in Sydney on August 11 and will carry on to Melbourne on August 17. Tickets will be on sale March 26.
