Side by Side by Sondheim – more cast announced

The upcoming concert version of Side By Side By Sondheim (announced on AussieTheatre here) is shaping up to be a very special night indeed.

Producer Enda Markey has announced more cast from the company joining West End and Broadway star Ruthie Henshall at the Theatre Royal in Sydney next month.

Some of Australia’s own brightest stars will be sharing the stage on the night. The new names added to the list are some of our most beloved performers:

Mitchell Butel (Avenue Q); Alinta Chidzey (West Side Story); Brendan Coustley (Rock of Ages); Helen Dallimore (Into The Woods, Spring Awakening); Lucy Durack (Legally Blonde, Wicked); Wayne Scott Kermond (Singin’ In The Rain); Melissa Langton (We Will Rock You); Lara Mulcahy (Mamma Mia!); Josh Piterman (An Officer and a Gentleman, West Side Story); Shaun Rennie (Cats, The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber).

Narrating the show will be some of Australia’s most well-known television stars, including Paula Duncan, Judy Nunn, Andrew O’Keefe, Jessica Rowe, and Bruce Venables.

Johanna Allen, Erin James, Anita Plateris and Belinda Wollaston will be singing additional vocals on the night.

This list of acclaimed performers join the previously announced Rachael Beck (Ordinary Days, Beauty and the Beast) Peter Cousens (Miss Saigon, Les Misérables, The Phantom of the Opera); Margi de Ferranti (Mamma Mia!); Michael Falzon (We Will Rock You), Ben Lewis (Love Never Dies); Stephen Mahy (Jersey Boys), Enda Markey (Side By Side By Sondheim tour) Maria Mercedes (Love Never Dies, Sunset Blvd), one of Australia’s best loved actresses, Amanda Muggleton; Anna O’Byrne (Love Never Dies) and Geraldine Turner.

Side by Side by Sondheim is a celebration of the early part of renowned theatre maker Stephen Sondheim’s career, looking at his landmark shows that have revolutionised musical theatre. The show features highlights from his best known works including the songs ‘Send in the Clowns’ and ‘Being Alive’ as well as, among others, numbers from West Side Story and Gypsy.
