The Short+Sweet Festival is back in Brisbane and just keeps getting larger each year. And with the addition of the Short+Sweet up-late cabaret strand, there is a little something for everyone.

The biggest little arts festival in the world has only one main rule – the work must be under ten minutes. For the i-generation with short attention spans, this is a great format because if something doesn’t suit your taste, there’s another one coming in just a few minutes.

The Short+Sweet Festival kicked off at the beginning of the month at The Arts Centre Gold Coast with both theatre and cabaret strands and continues at Brisbane Powerhouse 21-30 August. A shortlist of finalists are then determined by audience votes and anonymous judges with the best twelve shows playing at the Gala Final at the Powerhouse Theatre on Sunday 28 September.

Festival Director Nathan Sibthorpe said that with a such diverse program of more than fifty original ten-minute works, the “Short+Sweet Festival is like a sushi train for live performance works and this year’s train is really powering.”

Now in its thirteenth year, the Short+Sweet Festival has proven to be an invaluableplatform for showcasing new and original works for writers, directors, and actors, as well as providing the opportunity for artists to network and feel part of the growing arts community in Brisbane.
