Shane Bourne to replace Alan Brough in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

It was confirmed today that Shane Bourne will be joining the cast of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang for the Brisbane and Perth seasons this year.

Last seen on stage playing opposite Geoffrey Rush in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Bourne will be replacing Alan Brough as the vindictive, pampered, self-cantered, and incredibly effeminate Baron Bomburst.

Producer Tim Lawson believes that Bourne, an award winning comedian and actor, will be perfect for the role and a great addition to the company.

 “Shane is a hugely talented actor, and many Australians will remember him for his comic roles in Hey Hey it’s Saturday and Thank God You’re Here along with his more serious roles in City Homicide and the ABC series MDA”, Lawson said.

“We cast Shane because we knew his mix of acting skills would perfectly suit the role of Baron Bomburst. Shane is not only a great actor but also a great comedian and the role of the Baron lends itself to great comic timing. The character is really just a spoiled brat who refuses to grow up”.

Alan Brough originated the role in the Australian production which opened in Sydney late last year and has since played extremely successful seasons in Melbourne and Adelaide.

“The company are sad to say goodbye to Alan who was fantastic in the role, but are excited to have Shane on board who is sure to bring a new energy to the role”, said Lawson.

Starring Rachael Beck and David Hobson, directed by Roger Hodgman, choreographed by Dana Jolly and featuring a company of over 70 (including 8 dogs!) this production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is one for the whole family.
