Proud of our Mary – Cast of Mary Poppins celebrate 800 shows with music video

Matt Lee features in official Mary Poppins backstage video- Photographer David Wyatt

This week, ahead of their closing night on December 30, the cast and crew of Mary Poppins Australia released a backstage, self made youtube clip (endorsed by Disney and Cameron Mackintosh) which both celebrated the production’s 800th performance and allowed the company to let their hair down in an unprecedented way.

A fully produced and wonderfully executed video of ‘Proud Mary’ features cast and crew onstage (and backstage) in costume, performing choreography in celebration of their extensive tour in Australian and New Zealand, with tongue planted firmly in cheek.

It is wonderful to see the Australian company embrace a recent worldwide trend of musical theatre companies producing social media side projects, and Stage Manager of Mary Poppins, Matthew Henderson has put the call out for other Australian casts to raise the creative bar in a similar fashion.

“The challenge is up for the other shows now!” he told AussieTheatre, and we tend to agree!

Created by cast member Mitch Fistrovic and starring the Australian and New Zealand touring cast and crew of Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins, Proud Mary is certainly something to celebrate. Take a peek at the video below and let us know what you think!
