As the iconic Sydney Opera House prepares to host the mesmerising production of Boublil and Schönberg’s Miss Saigon, the buzz surrounding Cameron Mackintosh’s newest rendition can be felt rippling through the city.

The curtains are set to rise for the official opening night, but the story begins much earlier. For the last month, Opera Australia’s Surry Hills rehearsal room has echoed with the voices of a remarkable cast, over 40 performers strong, representing the diverse talents of the Asia-Pacific.

Abigail Adriano, taking on the principal role of Kim, shared her profound connection to the musical:

Miss Saigon means so much to so many of us… To some it tells a deeply personal story of hardship… and to others it’s an opportunity to be seen and perform one of the biggest shows in musical theatre history on the iconic Sydney Opera House stage.

Her words resonate with the sheer gravity and emotion the show promises to deliver.

 

Soon, this rehearsal space will give way to the grandeur of the Sydney Opera House, where the cast will be joined by the show’s signature life-sized 4-tonne helicopter, a symbol of the spectacle that awaits audiences.

For those unfamiliar, Miss Saigon, since its West End debut, has captured hearts globally, bagging 70 major theatre awards. Its tale, set against the turbulent backdrop of the Vietnam War, chronicles the life of Kim, a young Vietnamese woman. Her journey from a war-torn Saigon bar, where fate introduces her to American G.I. Chris, to her relentless quest to reunite with him, unravels in a stirring blend of drama, music, and passion.

 

 

With anthems like ‘The Heat is On in Saigon,’ ‘The Movie in My Mind,’ and ‘Last Night of the World,’ Boublil and Schönberg’s score promises to keep the audience entranced. And with the likes of Seann Miley Moore as the Engineer, Nigel Huckle as Chris, Kerrie Anne Greenland as Ellen, and an array of other supremely talented actors, this rendition seems poised to be one for the ages.

Miss Saigon’s Sydney chapter is presented by Opera Australia and Cameron Mackintosh, with the generous support of the NSW Government through its tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW.
