Bustown playwright Lachlan Philpott has just tonight been announced as the winner of the 2009 Griffin Award for his outstanding new playSilent Disco.
Australian Theatre for Young People is not only proud to have Lachlan on staff, as their Education and Fresh Ink Manager, but atyp is also proud to be presenting Lachlan’s play Bustown which has everyone buzzing down at The Wharf in Walsh Bay.
Bustown season commences next week from 22 September – 4 October and will be performed at atyp’s Studio 1. While Silent Disco will not be performed until 2010, Bustown presents a great opportunity to hear Lachlan’s unique voice right here, right now.
Like Silent Disco, Bustown explores themes of brave young love and unusual family relationships through the eyes of bold, contemporary young characters. Both plays are gritty, bold and funny and are strong examples of Lachlan’s cutting edge style. Asked to comment on the two plays, Lachlan: “I’m interested in making theatre which moves away from naturalism and makes the audience put their imagination and sense of play to work”.
With the spotlight firmly on Lachlan right now, Bustown tickets are sure to sell out, to avoid disappointment book at www.atyp.com.au NOW!
