Get ready for a truly spectacular evening—State Opera South Australia’s production of Flight is soaring into Her Majesty’s Theatre this May for its Australian premiere, and it’s set to dazzle with humor, heart, and glorious music!
Whether you’re a lifelong opera aficionado or completely new to the art form, Flight will speak to your soul. Devoted fans will love its wit and sparkle—think of it as a modern-day Marriage of Figaro—while first-timers will be swept up by its deeply human story, performed in English, making it instantly relatable and accessible.
According to State Opera South Australia’s Artistic Director, Dane Lam, “Flight captures the essence of humanity in its most vulnerable state. It’s a beautiful blend of comedy and pathos, and we’re thrilled to bring this timeless story to life in Adelaide.”
Adding to the magic, Flight is performed the old-fashioned way—without microphones—so you’ll experience the raw, electrifying beauty of the human voice filling every corner of the theatre. The star-studded cast features countertenor James Laing, as well as Anna Voshege, Nina Korbe, Samuel Dale Johnson, and Teddy Tahu Rhodes. Under the baton of British conductor Charlotte Corderoy, the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra brings Dove’s sublime score soaring to life.
Even Adelaide Airport has joined the excitement as a major partner. Managing Director Brenton Cox says, “As an airport community, we understand the complexities and emotions tied to travel… I love how this opera showcases resilience and the connections that can form in unexpected circumstances.”
Don’t miss Flight’s triumphant return to Adelaide—almost 20 years after its acclaimed debut at the 2006 Adelaide Festival! This brand-new, never-before-seen production in the Southern Hemisphere is exclusive to Her Majesty’s Theatre for a limited three-show season, running 8–10 May 2025.
