Opera Australia brings two spectacular productions to Brisbane this December

The Ring Cycle:

World’s first fully digital Ring Cycle to make its premiere in Brisbane this December

Recognised as the pinnacle of opera, the Ring Cycle comprises 15 hours of extraordinary music split over four evenings, and this brand-new, cutting-edge reimagining of Wagner’s masterpiece combines some of the finest local and international creative talents with the latest digital technologies to create the world’s first fully digital Ring Cycle.

Led by acclaimed Chinese director Chen Shi-Zheng, this breathtakingly immersive and innovative production uses towering LED screens to create visually stunning landscapes to accompany Wagner’s thrilling music and bring to life this fantastical tale of gods, dragons and mystical forces.

Fans from across the globe will be descending upon Brisbane to experience this world premiere production, which features a host of local talent, including the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Opera Australia Chorus, Opera Queensland Chorus, Dancenorth, and a star-studded leading cast of the world’s finest voices all under the baton of revered French conductor Philippe Auguin who makes his debut with the company in this production.

Aida

Opera Australia’s first digital spectacular makes long-awaited Brisbane debut

Acclaimed director Davide Livermore’s epic digital production of Verdi’s Aida makes its highly anticipated Brisbane debut after pandemic postponements and receiving rave reviews in both Sydney and Melbourne.

The AU Review:

This digital production features ten towering floor-to-ceiling LED screens displaying immersive designs ranging from rich symbolism to vivid landscapes, creating this “magnificent, jaw-dropping, gasp-enticing and lavish a staging as you can imagine.

This co-production by Opera Australia and Opera Queensland features many crowd-favourite powerhouse singers, including Armenian-Australian soprano Natalie Aroyan, French-Russian mezzo soprano Elena Gabouri, Mexican-Australian tenor Diego Torre, and Brisbane-born baritone Michael Honeyman. The stellar cast includes Opera Australia Chorus and Opera Queensland Chorus singers, with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra led by talented Italian conductor Lorenzo Passerini.
