A campaign to save the Festival has been set up via the ‘crowdfunding’ site pozible.com, and with only 24 hours left on the pozible clock, the total goal of $15,000 has not yet been reached. If the goal isn’t reached before midday tomorrow, all of the pledges collected thus far will be void and the festival will not take place this year, leaving a huge gap in the Melbourne Cabaret scene and the festival calendar.
The campaign has been supported by the likes of Geoffrey Rush, the Dresden Dolls, Paul Capsis, Sammy J & Randy and the Jane Austen Argument and in the last week alone, over $4000 has been pledged to the cause, taking the total to $14, 249 at the time of this article.
The Melbourne Cabaret Festival is one of Victoria’s fastest growing events, having achieved a 37% increase in sales last year, and the not-for-profit event is currently funded entirely through fundraising campaigns, strategic sponsorships and ticket sales.
