Olivier-winning OPERATION MINCEMEAT set to hit Australia and New Zealand in 2027

The Olivier Award-winning musical Operation Mincemeat is set to make its Australian debut in 2027 as part of its first-ever world tour. Following its acclaimed runs in London’s West End and on Broadway, the show will bring its unique blend of history, humour, and high-energy performance to Australian audiences.

Operation Mincemeat is a musical comedy by the British theatre company SpitLip, comprising David Cumming, Felix Hagan, Natasha Hodgson, and Zoë Roberts. The show is based on the true story of a 1943 British intelligence operation that used a corpse carrying fake documents to mislead Nazi Germany about the Allies’ invasion plans. This audacious ruse played a pivotal role in the success of the Allied invasion of Sicily.

The musical features a versatile cast of five actors who portray over 80 characters, often employing gender-swapped roles and rapid costume changes. The production combines elements of satire, slapstick, and heartfelt storytelling, delivering a theatrical experience that is both entertaining and emotionally resonant.

Operation Mincemeat premiered in 2019 at London’s New Diorama Theatre and quickly gained a devoted following. Its popularity led to extended runs at Southwark Playhouse and Riverside Studios before transferring to the West End’s Fortune Theatre in 2023. The show received critical acclaim, earning six Laurence Olivier Award nominations and winning Best New Musical and Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical for Jak Malone.

In 2025, the musical made its Broadway debut at the Golden Theatre, where it continued to garner praise for its inventive storytelling and dynamic performances.

As part of its world tour, Operation Mincemeat will arrive in Australia in 2027, following engagements in the UK, US, Canada, Mexico, China, and New Zealand. While specific Australian cities and venues have yet to be announced, the tour is expected to bring the show’s distinctive charm to major theatres across the country.
