Turandot: An opera of fire and ice

A fantasy opera of poetry and myth, Graeme Murphy’s Turandot transports audiences to an exotic world where fear and love go hand in hand. Viewers will be on the edge of their seats as suitors answer riddles at the risk of death in an attempt to win the hand of the ice princess of opera.

Sharing the titular role will be rising star Australian soprano Anna-Louise Cole in her debut as Turandot and internationally acclaimed soprano Lise Lindstrom. Joined by Russian tenor Ivan Gyngazov making his Opera Australia debut as Calàf. and South Korean sopranos Karah Son and Mariana Hong who will share the part of Liù.

The Marriage of Figaro: An irresistible mix of comedy and drama

A chaotic whirlwind of mistaken identities makes the wedding day of Figaro and Susanna a lesson in hilarity and the intricacies of human relationships. Set in the mid-1600s, renowned director Sir David McVicar brings Mozart’s entertaining romp of lovers and liaisons, tricks and disguises, lust, and laughter to life with a dark, sharp edge.

Featuring luxurious period costumes and sets by Tony Award-winning designer Jenny Tiramani, radiant lighting by David Finn and a stellar cast of homegrown & international superstars it’s easy to see why Mozart’s classic comedy continues to charm audiences the world over.

Otello: More relevant now than ever before.

The unravelling of Shakespeare’s most iconic outsider.

Legendary director Harry Kupfer’s acclaimed production of Otello, one of Verdi’s most magnificent works, will return to the Sydney Opera House this July. Distilled from Shakespeare’s masterpiece, Otello is an intense chamber-like piece that explores alterity, deception, and revenge.

Internationally celebrated South Korean artists tenor Yonghoon Lee and soprano Karah Son will undertake the colossal task of embodying two of literature’s most significant characters in their long-awaited debuts as Otello and Desdemona. Fast becoming Australia’s favourite villain, Italian baritone Marco Vratogna returns with a chilling portrayal of Iago alongside Virgilio Marino, Sian Sharp, Richard Anderson and John Longmuir.
