No Intermission Festival returns to Sydney

After a fantastic inaugural season in 2019, and a brief Covid-induced intermission in 2020, NO: INTERMISSION is back for 2021 with a series of fresh new works for the stage. This festival was created with the core mission of providing opportunities for Sydney’s emerging artists to work collaboratively on quality productions and to bring to the stages works from writers across the world that would mark their Sydney debut. For the 2021 festival, Theatre Travels has engaged over 35 incredible creatives, from performers to playwrights, designers to directors and a wonderful team of assistants each working to further develop their knowledge in their chosen field.

NO: INTERMISSION productions are sourced from an extensive submission process that is open to playwrights around the world. This season saw over 650 submissions come in for consideration from over 14 countries.

Though perhaps easier to continue hibernating after a tough COVID year, Theatre Travels had only one priority; to get the casts and crews of these great productions back into the rehearsal rooms that they had to abruptly leave in March 2020, only a month away from originally opening the shows.

Rattling the Keys – (17th-20th March)

This script was awarded First Prize (Jnr Category) in the State Theatre Company of South Australia and Flinders University Playwright Competition 2018.

In Their Footsteps – (17th-20th March)
By Verbatim Creators, Ashley Adelman and Infinite Variety Productions
This show makes it’s Australian premiere after an Off-Broadway premiere and a successful Edinburgh Fringe Festival run.
Starring: Linda Nicholls-Gidley, Nola Bartolo, Rowena Robinson, Sonya Kerr and Suzann James

Lipstick – (24th-27th March)
By Lane Stanley, making his Australian debut.
This production has been uniquely rewritten by Stanley for the Australian cast.

Girl Shut Your Mouth (24th-27th March)
By Australian favourite, Gita Bezard (The Last Great Hunt).
This production returns from 5 Star Reviews (The Advertiser) at the Adelaide Fringe Festival 2020. Starring: Alex Gonzalez, Antonia Korn, Kaylee Ashton and Kobi Taylor- Forder

In 2021, NO: INTERMISSION has something for everyone. From a striking Verbatim play about the women of the Vietnam War to a hilarious Queer Farce about finding love, every night of the festival brings an exciting new story to the stage. Theatre Travels is also proud to produce the works of two female Australian playwrights, with both works making their Sydney premiere after runs in Adelaide and Perth.
